Homework assignments will be due one week after they are announced in class. They are to be turned in at the beginning of the class period. Homework assignments will be made available via this web site. For each day a homework assignment is late, 10 percent will be docked from the grade. Any homework assignments over 2 days late will not be graded.
There will be approximately six homework assignments in the class, worth varying number of points. The total number of points for the homework assignments will be normalized to be worth 30 percent of the total grade
Exams will be held one week after they are announced in class. There will be three exams in the class, two mid terms and a final. The final exam will be comprehensive, but will be weighted more towards the material covered at the end of the semester. Certain current topics in bioinformatics and computational biology might not be tested.
Homework assignments will be returned approximately one week after they are received. Exams will be returned approximately one week after they are held. Both homework assignments and exams will be graded by hand and marked with comments. A histogram of the scores of each homework and exam will be posted online.

There will be no programming projects in this course. An occasional homework problem might require you to use existing software and think about the results.
